This estate Pinot Noir is surprisingly opulent, yet elegant and velvety textured, with strawberry and berry-earthy savoriness in its overture. Blackberry and spicy plum vie for attention with black cherry and currant flavors, finishing in a final act of subtle tannins, a trace of toasty oak, and a silkiness that glides seductively over the palate.

Perhaps the most stunning quality of Carmody McKnight for Pinot Noir aficionados is that it shares the one soil constituent that distinguishes the most renowned producer of Pinot Noir — Domaine de la Romanée-Conti — from all other vineyards.  Both Romanée-Conti and Carmody McKnight besides having the “wonder soil”(calcium montmorillonite) in common and all vintages are 100% the varietal.  It is as rare in California to find an unmanipulated Pinot Noir that is 100% varietal.
