The name of the Nero d’Avola vine was born as Calaulisi. Caleu is a Sicilian synonym of Racina, that is grapes. Aulisi indicates “Aula”, that is the municipality of Avola in Sicilian. Ultimately: Grapes of Avola. Chiaramontesi is named for the familial dynasty in “Orlando Furioso”. Depicted on the label, Charlemagne hands Angela over to Namo di Baviera and promises her hand to the most heroic during battle.
