Recycle Your Wine

Red-Wine-Glass-Square

No fear, as it is time for all of these great wines to be given a second life….. when you Recycle Your Wine!

Have you ever had a recipe that called for a couple tablespoons to a cup of wine, but you did not want to open a fresh bottle, or did not have one on hand?

Some people may say, left over wine, what’s that?  However, sometimes you may just have less than a glass left and preserving that wine could come in handy later on.  One thing you can do is put the left over wine into ice cube trays.  After they have frozen, pop them into a zip lock bag and keep them handy for the next recipe that calls for wine.

Another use is to make a Sangria.  Many people choose to make Sangria with cheap wine and/or pre made Sangria-In-A-Bottle because it is going to be soaked with fruit and soda anyway.  There is nothing wrong with that if you want to save some money.  You certainly don’t need top dollar wine, but with all those preservatives, additives and who know what else,  you are destined for a major recovery day.  So why not do somethings special with those natural wines you just enjoyed!   Enjoy this recipe and tell us what you think.

Sangria Recipe

  • 1 apple or pear cubed
  • 1 organic orange into rounds
  • 1 organic lemon into rounds
  • 1 organic lime cut into rounds
  • 1/2 organic honeydew (or any melon) peeled cubed
  • 3 cups of organic strawberries halved
  • Two bottles of wine or wine ice cubes.  Preferably lighter styles like Pinot Noir or Beaujolais.
  • Combine all of the above and let sit in a bowl or pitcher for at least 2 hours in the refrigerator.

In a single serving glass pour in:

  • 1/2 Sangria (liquid only)
  • 1/3 Hansen’s Lemon Lime Soda or equivalent
  • Top with the Sangria soaked fruit
  • Garnish, Sip and Enjoy!

So next time you are pondering what you are going to do with all those half used bottles of wine and you don’t want them to go bad… Recycle Your Wine.

Note:

  • If you think you may have left overs and want to make a Frozen Recycled Sangria Smoothie in the coming days, save yourself some time and peel the orange. lemon and lime before putting them into your Sangria.
  • Make sure you have ice cube trays on hand at all times!

Left Overs:

  • If there are any left overs, pour the Sangria mixture into ice-cube trays and freeze!
  • Put frozen fruit into a zip lock bag and freeze.  Separate fruit into 2 cups of fruit per bag.  This will save you some time when making the Frozen Recycled Sangria Smoothie.
