2018 Eco Terreno Lyon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

From $60

The 2018 Lyon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a special wine with a very dark purple color and a bright purple rim. Fragrant notes of sweet black cherry, warm baking spices, and blackberry are balanced by notes of cedar. Rich flavors of ripe black cherry and dark chocolate with a hint of espresso, combine with blackberry to create a wine that is lush and fruit-forward yet balanced. The finish is lingering and silken, with hints of structure that will aid in aging. Enjoyable now and over the next seven years.

With the 2018 harvest, things returned to a more normal schedule in Alexander Valley. Cooler temperatures, a long, even growing season with good fruit set, good rainfall and higher yields and smooth ripening gave us the opportunity to dial in the flavor profiles, acidity and ripeness of our individual blocks. A brief burst of rain in early October was followed by a nice dry spell with moderate heat, and we were able to harvest beautiful, grapes with that were balanced to perfection by nature. Grapes for Lyon Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced exclusively from our Lyon Vineyard, grown in gravelly/sandy Cortina Loam, derived from millions of years of gravel and sand alluvial deposits from the Russian River. This well drained soil is ideally suited for growing our deeper red varietals, producing muscular wines with high extract and concentrated flavor.

“At Eco Terreno, farming vineyards is about more than making amazing wine for your glass. It’s about caring for the health and vitality of our world and embracing the benefits of regenerative farming… healing, restoring, and strengthening the land.

Industrial farming has devastating effects on our land and is a large contributor to the dangers of climate change. Changing this narrative is well within our grasp, and soil, when cared for naturally, without chemicals, can help us rewrite it.

Our commitment to do no harm actively boosts the health of our farm, the neighboring river, and the community of insects, birds, fish, and land animals that call our area home.

With diligence and time, our soil has returned to its robust natural state. It now gives back more carbon than it takes. It’s our unsung hero, literally fighting climate change by sequestering carbon while producing excellent organic and Biodynamically farmed fruit for our wine portfolio.”
