5 Organic Wine-of-the-Month Clubs To Try
Here’s a way to expand your repertoire and help the Earth at the same time.
Organic wines — made from grapes and other ingredients grown without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides — are ideal for oenophiles concerned about their health and the planet. But what if your wine store doesn’t carry organic brands? One way to expand your palate is by joining an organic wine-of-the-month club.
There are already many organic “of-the-month” clubs for everything from beer, coffee and fruit to meats, nuts, and even soap and flowers.
By subscribing to an organic wine-of-the-month club, you will regularly receive a specified number of chemical-free offerings selected from vineyards around the globe. It’s a win-win. You drink according to your green values while sampling what the world has to offer. Here are five clubs to consider:
EcoVine Organic Wine Club. Ecovine club is all about customization and offers an assortment of organic wines, including biodynamic and vegan options. Choose from two, three or four bottles per shipment (starting at $39 plus shipping for two bottles) and schedule them to arrive at your home or office monthly, every other month or quarterly. Additional options include a club for devotees of organic wines with no added sulfites and one for aficionados of top-shelf organic wines from elite wineries.
The Organic Wine Company Wine of the Month Club. Subscribers to this versatile club can choose from several three-bottle options for $49.99, or the VIP club, which gets you an entire case with an assortment of reds and whites, plus a personal call from president and founder Véronique Raskin, for $200. You must sign up for a minimum of three months, but members receive a 10 percent discount on all wine orders from the regular catalog.
PureVineWines Wine of the Month Club. Run by three wine lovers in Portland, Ore., PureVineWines allows club subscribers to sample an assortment of organic, biodynamic and sustainably grown wines from artisanal producers around the world. The price is $45 to $60 a month for two bottles (cost varies by selection), complete with information about the vineyards and recipes to complement the wines. With a six-month subscription you receive one free bottle, and a 12-month subscription gets you two.
Organic Wine Exchange Wine Club. This club’s monthly or quarterly shipments are tailored to your personality. With the “Shy One,” for example, you get one to two bottles of organic wine per month for $50 plus shipping. The “Flirt” gets you three to four bottles for $100 plus shipping, and the “Risk Taker” gives you 10 to 12 bottles for $250 plus shipping. Wines include organic and biodynamic selections from mostly family owned domestic and international vineyards.
Organic Wine Press Wino of the Month Club. This brick-and-mortar organic wine shop in Bandon, Ore., ships wine to club subscribers around the country (though not to every state — check the site to see a complete list). With the two-bottle option you receive one organic red and one white each month for $24 plus shipping and a wine box fee. The three-bottle option includes one white and two reds for $36 plus shipping and wine box fee.
